Airship Crash

The airship has crashed in the Mjolnir mountains. Rescue the survivors on the crash site, then go down into the Forgotten Cave, where monsters changed by the shattered Ymir stone attack a professor's research team. The boss drops nothing special on the floor: its death is the clear, and the clear gives each member a chance at the six Unknown Boots. For base level 215 and up, alone or with a party.

Getting in

  • Instance Manager (the hub, the service towns, or @instance): Airship Crash, level 215, the four modes, a daily cooldown per mode as every instance. No quest or story needed. A member who rejoins lands at the crash site; the Surprised Villager there takes you straight to the cave once your party has registered.

The crash site

  • Walk around and the survivors talk: Lydia, Seth, Iris and Loki on the way south.
  • Ten injured people lie in the forest. Talk to one and call the rescuers (anyone in the party can). Captain Felrock keeps count. When all ten are found, everyone in the party on the two maps gets 5 Ymir Fragments, once per run (by mail if your bag is full).
  • The path down into the cave is at the north-east of the site, next to the Postgraduate Student.

The Forgotten Cave

  1. Talk to the Professor and register. A few seconds later the cave fills with monsters, 80 of each kind, and they appear anywhere, even next to you. Every one that dies is replaced until the boss comes.
  2. The Doctorate Student gives kill quests: hunt 100 monsters for 1 Ymir Fragment, then 200 for 2, then 350 for 3. Each one you finish opens the next for you in this run; you can repeat any open one. Any monster in the cave counts, and so do your party members' kills anywhere on the map. A reward that does not fit in your bag waits in the quest log until you make room.
  3. When the party has 25 Ymir Fragments in one bag, talk to the Ghost next to the team. The waves vanish and the Unidentified Creature appears in the wreck of the airship (rope 1 by the team takes you down there).
  4. Its death is the clear. The Master of Rope marks the escape ropes on your mini-map; each rope takes you back to the team. The Professor takes you out to Dali.

Monster numbers are kRO's (Divine Pride). Each monster drops its own card (0.2 % with Sol's drop rate). In the cave the monsters also drop Ymir Ore (1.5 %; Rusbald trades 10 Ymir Ore for 1 Ymir Fragment), Ymir Fragments (0.025 %) and rarely Ymir Beads. The boss drops Ymir Fragments (several chances of 3-10 %), Ymir Beads and very rarely the Contaminated Card Book.

The clear

Every member on the two maps gets, once per run:

  • 15 Instance Coins (more on Hard and up), Kachua keys by the usual rules, the level 200+ Care Package box, and on Hell Hell Coins.
  • A chance at each of the six Unknown Boots: 8 % each on Normal, 9.6 % on Hard, 12 % on Nightmare, 14.4 % on Hell.

The Ymir Fragment exchange

Rusbald in the Dimensional Gap (dali02 134,87) and in the hub's Airship Crash row (the official prices):

Item Price
Ymir Fragment 10 Ymir Ore (Sol, as on muhRO)
Ymir Beads 17 Ymir Fragments + 150,000 z
Unknown Strength / Dexterity / Vitality / Intelligence / Agility / Luck Boots 185 Ymir Fragments each
Contaminated Card Book (one card of this instance) 2,500 Ymir Fragments

Unknown Boots and Ymir Beads

The six Unknown Boots [1] (level 230, one per stat) get ATK, MATK or other stat bonuses with every refine, and with the Eroded Necklace (US) or the Hero's Triumphant Song they form sets. Ymir Beads enchant them: double-click the beads, pick the boots in the Lapine upgrade window. Line 1 always: Max HP or Max SP +1-10 %. Line 2 half the time: HP or SP recovery +25-50 %, Max HP +50-1,000, Max SP +10-300, ASPD +1-7 % or variable cast time -1-10 %. Every use rolls both lines again. Boots with a card in them cannot be enchanted (as on kRO): enchant first.
